SAKHACHAPURE NO. 1: HOW DOES THIS MALL RESTAURANT’S KACHAPURI STACK UP?

The Cost - $7 per person

The Atmosphere – Inside of a not-so-spectacular shopping mall, Sakhachapure No.1 is very casual and doesn’t boast amazing decor but the dining environment is perfectly acceptable.

When you’re from the U.S. and say that you went to Georgia, most people think you are talking about the state. No offense to those in the State of Georgia, but the country of Georgia is a way cooler place to visit. Tbilisi, the capital, has so much to offer: history, culture, a beautiful European vibe, great people and awesome food. Today’s review is from my lunch at the Sakhachapure No. 1 restaurant located in a downtown Tbilisi mall.

The Order - Homemade lemonade to drink. Tomato/Cucumber Salad, Adjarian Kachapuri (regular size), and Meat Khinkali to eat.

The Fantastic - This meal was filled with traditional Georgian dishes and there is no dish more iconic than the Adjarian style Kachapuri. A boat shaped bread filled with Georgian cheese and egg,, this dish is an absolute treat and this version was outstanding. The bread was baked and soft and the filling inside was warm and gooey. We ordered the regular size which alone could have been a full meal for two. Can’t imagine what the XL size is like!

The Great - Khinkali, a traditional Georgian dumpling from the country’s mountain regions, is a simple dumpling that is typically filled with meat or cheese and then boiled. With no sauces or additions, the best khinkali are the ones with the juiciest and most flavorful meat or cheese inside. These khinkali did not disappoint! The homemade lemonade was also great. This version, typical to Georgia, is made with lime and orange peel and mint but unlike many lemonades in Georgia, this one was carbonated.

The Good - Tomato and cucumber based salads are the most common in Georgia and this one was good. It had onions and, like many dishes in the country, was topped with walnuts.

The Verdict - The food at Sakhachapure No. 1 was very good and at $7 a person for the full meal, it is one of the best value restaurants I have ever been to! Get over the fact that it’s inside of a mall and give it a try.
