FORT OAK: CAR DEALERSHIP TURNED CHIC RESTAURANT? YES, PLEASE!

The Cost - $75 per person

The Atmosphere – Such a unique restaurant build out being that it was once a car dealership. One part of the restaurant is a beautiful, modern space with an absolutely gorgeous bar. The other part is an open air and covered section which is very nicely decorated. Perfect restaurant for a date or special occasion.

You know those days you just want to get dressed up and treat yourself to a night out? It was one of those days the night I went to Fort Oak. When I arrived, I realized I was in what was once a Ford dealership now converted into a sophisticated, upscale restaurant.

The Order - To drink, the Firebird. Later on, the Bel Air Nomad. For food, the Scallop Aguachile, Beef Tartare, Steamed Clams & Mussels, Goat Milk Cavatelli and the Duroc Pork Chop. The Cardomom Churros for dessert.

The Phenomenal - Steamed Clams & Mussels sounds boring but this dish was far from from it. The broth was genius; the fennel and Spanish chorizo added so much flavor and a fantastic kick; the grilled sourdough that came with it was perfect in every way. The Cavatelli was also a big winner. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the charred broccoli, sausage and truffle added to it made it a sensational dish. I just wish there was more of it.

The Great - The pork chop was beautifully done and the black garlic sauce on it was brilliant. It was a large entrée so it was a good value despite the high price ($36). The scallop aguachile, which has coriander oil in it, was very refreshing and was a great way to start. The Bel Air Nomad, made from house-infused coconut mezcal with turmeric, agave and molé bitters, was impressive.

The Good - The Firebird, tequila with lime, hibiscus, orange liqueur and chile peppers was solid but nothing special. The cardamom churros were a bit too light and airy and I wanted more cardamom but the citrus curd dip it came with was to die for!

The Okay - The flavor of the tartare was nice but when I order tartare I want to taste the meat. Instead, I tasted too much of the shallots, hazelnuts and truffle vinaigrette.

The Verdict - Though not cheap, this meal was a standout. Go treat yourself to a great dining experience! I highly recommend it.
