TÍR: SHOULD YOU BRAVE THE LONG LINES AT THIS MODERN DUBLIN DELI?
The Cost -$9 per person
The Atmosphere – Located steps from the Baggot Street Bridge, tír is a modern Irish deli that is only open for breakfast and lunch. The eatery has indoor seating for four people and some outdoor seating as well. A big lunch rush can lead to some pretty substantial lines so if you are looking to avoid the line, try visiting at a non-peak time like 11 am or 2 pm; just beware, tír often sells out of popular sandwiches so you may want to go on the earlier side to get your first choice sandwich.
tír is a modern and progressive deli not just because of its décor, but because of the eatery’s focus on sustainability and carefully selected, high-quality ingredients that are thoughtfully prepared before becoming a part of your sandwich. The Irish deli, which opened in 2021, receives the vast majority of its ingredients from local farms, the names of which are proudly displayed at the restaurant, which notes the ingredients they provide. The lunch menu generally consists of a total of four sandwich options with each one containing Irish flavors like whiskey cured ham and Irish summer pesto.
The Order – Smoke-Roasted Beef Sandwich and Summer Veg Sandwich.
The Fantastic – The Smoke-Roasted Beef Sandwich was a thing of beauty. The beef was excellent and its flavor was delicious. It was accompanied in the sandwich by a marmalade, excellently done onions, and potato chips, which add a nice crunch. Because of the juices from the beef and onions, the potato chips are just a tad bit soggy, and they are perfect that way. For this sandwich, you have a choice between poppyseed bread and ciabatta; the ciabatta was chosen for this sandwich. The bread came out fresh and warm after being heated and was made for tír by a local bakery. It tasted great and was an excellent bread choice for this sandwich.
The Good - The Summer Veg Sandwich featured a combination of mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, pumpkin seeds, and cucumbers and while everything was good, the sandwich just did not compare to the roast beef sandwich. The Summer Veg Sandwich was ordered on the poppyseed bread which was fine, but nowhere near as good as the ciabatta. It was very nice that the vegetables all came from Irish farms, but this sandwich should only be chosen by people looking for a non-meat option.
The Verdict – You can’t go wrong by choosing tír as your lunch destination while in Dublin. With carefully crafted, thoughtfully produced, high-quality sandwiches that cost about $10 each, it’s no wonder why there are often long lines at this Dublin eatery. Take it from someone that hates standing in line: that roast beef sandwich is definitely worth the wait.
