LANGOUSTE: ONE OF SERBIA’S MOST ELEGANT FINE DINING OPTIONS

The Cost - $55 per person

The Atmosphere – An elegant, white tablecloth restaurant with large windows and amazing nice views. Great for a special occasion or if you want to treat yourself (or someone else) to a nice night out.

Michelin has supposedly made its way to Serbia for the first time to review restaurants but no awards have been announced. I visited one of the potential awardees, Langouste, a beautiful restaurant overlooking the Danube river in one of the most happening areas of Serbia’s capital, Belgrade.

The Order -Smoked Celery Soup, Beef Tartare, Ribeye with Foie Gras, Smoked Veal and one glass of wine per person

The Fantastic - There were 4 different amuse- bouche sent to the table to start the meal and boy were they good! From parmesan crisps to deer and foie gras sausage, these bites were a fun and delicious way to start this dining experience. As for the dishes we ordered, the Ribeye with Foie Gras earns this honor. A decadent signature dish served with a layer of ribeye steak over a layer of foie gras topped with a black rice cracker, this dish was superb. The texture of the meat and foie gras was smooth and silky and they melted in your mouth. I didn’t love the rice crisps on top but luckily you could separate them easily from the meat.

The Great - Both appetizers, the Beef Tartare and the Smoked Celery Soup were great. The tartare was a generous portion served with scallions and cream. There was a little too much cream for me but thankfully it didn’t distract too much from the amazing meat. The soup was very nice and unique as it was served alongside a scoop of pirot cheese ice cream. The combination was just as tasty as it was fun.

The Good
- The Smoked Veal was a nicely presented dish and came with a black truffle sauce. The meat was smoked well and the meat tasted so light in comparison to the more traditional heavy Serbian veal dishes.

The Verdict - is Langouste going to get a Michelin star? I don’t know. But it is worth a visit when n Belgrade and if you like steak, make sure you get the Ribeye with Foie Gras!
