LOOK PAST THE DECOR AT THIS CHINESE TAKE OUT SPOT ON QUEENS BOULEVARD
The Cost - $10 per person
The Atmosphere – Don’t expect much as Feng’s Garden is mainly set up for takeout and delivery though they do have a few tables you can sit and eat at. The place hasn’t changed much in the decades that it has been around but a take out restaurant doesn’t need to have a nice interior.
New York (Americanized) Chinese food is amazing. I still have no idea what these small, often run-down looking establishments do to make their food taste so good and that is okay with me. For well over 20 years, Feng’s Garden, located on Queens Boulevard in Forest Hills, Queens, has been serving Chinese food to its customers and so I placed an order for pickup and prepared for a feast. Check out what I ordered below and for an extra secret tip, check out Eat My Critique’s review of Feng’s Garden on the Seek App.
The Order - Wonton Eggdrop Mixed Soup (Small), Pork Egg Roll, Boneless Spare Ribs (Large), and a Beef Chow Fun.
The Great - The Boneless Spare Ribs were excellent. The meat was full of flavor thanks, in part, to the delicious, sweet glaze that the pieces are coated with. It was also so nice to eat spare ribs without having to deal with the bones. The Pork Egg Roll was also excellent. A mixture of fried pork strips and chopped vegetables inside of a perfectly fried wonton skin, I’m not quite sure you can get anything better in the United States for $1.30. Rounding out this rating category, the wonton egg drop soup was so good and is also an incredible value at just $2.15. Add in the crunchy fried wonton skins that it comes with and you will be in heaven.
The Good - The Beef Chow Fun was solid but I would order it with a different protein next time as I thought the beef was a bit dry. The chow fun noodles, on the other hand, were delicious. I would try pork or shrimp.
The Verdict - Feng’s Garden is one of my best value picks for New York City. To be able to get that much great tasting food for about $10 a person in NY these days is amazing. If you’re anywhere near it, stop by this hidden gem for a quick meal.
