Washington DC’s NOMA neighborhood has really developed into one of the capital’s hippest areas with amazing food options. On a lovely Sunday morning in DC, I went out to the DC outpost of St. Anselm (@st_anselm_dc), which opened its doors to customers in 2018.

The Order - The Vodka Cocktail, Buttermilk Biscuits and the Steak and Eggs.

The Cost - $42 per person

The Fantastic - The buttermilk biscuits are the star of the show here. They come four to an order and each of them are much larger than your typical biscuit. They are perfectly baked and are served with a pimento cheese that is phenomenal. This appetizer is decadent and worth every calorie and can easily be split among 4 people who are each ordering an entree.

The Great - The Vodka Cocktail, simply named, is a mixture of sobieski vodka, crème de cassis, @cottonandreed allspice dram (spiced rum) and lemon. Overall, a great brunch cocktail - not too sweet, not too boozy. A lovely refreshing drink to start Sunday Funday off right.

The Good - The Steak and Eggs, grilled butcher steak with two sunny side up eggs and crispy potatoes with a béarnaise sauce, was simple but good. The béarnaise sauce was very nice but I was left wanting this dish to be a little bigger in portion, especially given its price, and a little more exciting than it was.

The Verdict - Overall, St. Anselm serves a very nice brunch in a great part of DC. I definitely recommend booking a table one Sunday morning, having a cocktail, the biscuits and then strolling over to Union Market and exploring the area.
